New Directors Appointed
At their April meeting, your Board appointed Van Horn Diamond and Richard M. "Dickie" Towill to fill the pukas left by the resignations of Tom Bell and Dorothy Douthit, PhD. Both gentlemen have close ties to the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.
Van Diamond was on the original teaching team for E Mele Kakou, our program that teaches Hawai`i kids Hawaiian music. He serves both the Federal and state councils overseeing the reburial of Hawaiian ancestral remains and is historian for the Honolulu chapter of Hale o Na Ali`i. He has played Hawaiian music professionally since 1959.
Returning to the Board is Dickie Towill, who designated the display panels for our Hall of Fame honorees. Dickie is best known for establishing Ka Kimeni Ana, the concert/contest of "unplugged" music staged at the Hawai`i Theatre over Statehood weekend every year since 1983.
