June 8 Concert Is a Hawaiian Music "Must"
On Tuesday, June 8, 7 p.m., at Hawai`i Theatre, Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame presents its special10th Anniversary year concert "Na Mele Me Ma`iki" (Songs with Ma`iki). The concert is sponsored by the Kahauanu Lake Trio Corporation, with "Uncle "K" directing the music, and Michael Pili Pang handling production and stage management. Harry Soria is the Master of Ceremonies.
Why is this event special? Because the concert is devoted to the original Kahauanu Lake Trio songs which accompanied late Hula Master Ma`iki Aiu Lake's dancers. There will be special appearances by dancers and Kumu Hula trained by her. What's more, one of Ma`iki's kumu hula graduates and her dancers are coming from Lakewood, California to perform.
Among the scheduled guest performers are Emma Veary & Mahi Beamer, Mitchell Miles & students from Anuenue Immersion School, and as always the Kahauanu Lake Singers accompanied by Tommy and "Uncle "K".
It will be an hour or so, without intermission, of the memorable Hawaiian music and hula that personifies Hawai`i around the world
From 6:15 to 6:45 pm, the Royal Hawaiian Band will perform on the Chinatown Park side of the theatre for those folks standing in line to get into the show. A Hall of Fame information Courtesy table will also be there for attendees with questions, or wanting more information about the organization and its purpose.
Tickets are available now for $25 or $20 at the theater box office. Phone number: (808)528-0506, or in person. Box office is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am-5 pm local time.
We'll see you there in your aloha wear and leis, as Kamehameha Festival Week begins.
