| It true name is " Iesu Me Ke Kanaka Waiwai " you can find the lyrics at (www.huapala.org ) go to the mainpage... at the A...lyrics, scroll down and look the the right of the screen you will see other archives Hula Instruments, Hula notes, Hula steps, etc. go all the way down and click on Christmas/Religious then find "Iesu Me Ke Kanaka Waiwai" It has the translation for the Hawaiian verse and the whole song itself... I love this song especially the hawaiian words... and I myself was going to do a hula to it... but the haw'n words were nothing like the english sung... its actually the story of the rich young ruler... from the blble, true a very good story, but yet hard to create a hula for... so for now its still on the back burner... but i would love to come up with a hula for it. hope this helps... I've listened to interviews with him (conducted in Hawaiian) where he explicitly states that he did not write the words, but that he composed the music for the songs as it is now performed today. It had different music previously, stylistically more hula-oriented, and the church deemed it to be inappropriate to be sung in that style. He sang a few bars of it with the original music, but not enough to recreate it. |

I have uke chords in the keys of C & F. I went to the web site where my copy was printed from and it no longer has the chords listed. If you would like, I can email them to you. Also, our Halau has choreographed a hula to Kanaka Waiwai and we use it in many shows. All the dancers say they get goose bumps when they perform this song. |

I am a Musician from Honolulu that use to be in the Al Harrington Show for 15 years. I now live here in North Carolina and became a Born Again Christian 11 years ago. I am also a praise and worship leader in our church. We will be doing this song with some local hula dancers in our church this Sunday. What a "Blessing" to be here to share the "Aloha Spirit". |

I don't know where you can go, but if you are able to pick out a choral arrangement by ear, the "Three Angels' Choral" sings a beatiful arrangement of this song. They're the reason I found out about it in the first place. Their website is http://www.3angelschorale.com I don't know if it's exactly choral style, but it's sung by a choral. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever. |

My Ohana lives in Boston and we just lost our beloved sister, Ku'ulei, to ovarian cancer. Her funeral is tomorrow and we've been desperately trying to find the sheet music to "Kanaka Wai Wai" for our Soloist to sing and organist to play. Could you please email the sheet music to me too? Another good site for the lyrics is www.kalena.com/huapala/Iesu_Me_Ke_Kanaka.html . The song was based on the parable from Matthew 19:16-24, Almeida composed the music in 1915, for a Mormon church in Honolulu who rejected the song because it sounded too much like a hula. The original chords and music are not the way it is sung today. This song was also recorded by my cousin the late Don Ho. Ho'onani ke Haku! |

Hi, According to the website, the Hawaii State Library in HNL has sheet music for Kanaka Wai Wai...not sure if you can copy it or what. I have someone checking it out for me now... Melveen Leed sings Let Me Walk Thru Paradise With You to this tune...with a different chorus than listed up above. I'll be watching here to see if anyone has found where we can buy the sheet music.
