| Composed and originally sung by Teresa Bright and Steve Ma`ai, you'll find lyrics and translation on this Cazimero Brothers CD: http://www.mele.com/v3/info/895.htm -- auntie maria HAWAIIAN MUSIC ISLAND www.mele.com |

Are there any places where I can find piano sheet music for this song? I would LOVE THAT! I'm imagining myself playing it in front of a zillion people. I would do a little jazz solo, and people would be goin', "Wooooo! Watch those hands!" I think it would be a smash! |

Neither of Steve & Teresa's two albums which included this fun song, are still in print. But their version of the song was included on this CD -- which is a great compilation of island songs, by some of the best island musicians: PURE HAWAIIAN http://www.mele.com/music/artist/charles+ka%60upu/pure+hawaiian/ |

Down from the valley to the beach from Waikiki - Everybody listens to a beat that`s new to me - It sounds like a hula in a rock`n roll style - I don`t know what it is but it sure sounds nice (wild) I hurry to Luisa and say: “Hey honey, what´s that?” She says: “Uwehe, ‘ami and slide” ‘Uwehe, ‘ami and slide Woe, woe, woe, woe. I say you ku’i to the left and then you ku’i to the right Kaholo in the middle, you can do it all night t’s go around the island with your Händs on your hips – You do the hoochie coochie snapping your fingertips - Sophisticates hula maidens they like to do - They do a little ‘oni and a ku-ku-ku. “Uwehe, ‘ami and slide = 4 x Woe, woe, woe, woe |

There are 2 more verses that I have to this song. She's a little girl from the Windward side. Her momma only taught her how to hula glide. Went to a party down in Waikiki. She never even Knew but no WEB TV WHile every one was doing the rock & roll. She would Uwehe, Ami & Slide. Uehe, ami & slide (repeat 3 more times) Woe, (repeat 6 more times. Don't be crazy don't be late. Come on and grab your alligator cause it's time to skate. Lift your heels up off the floor, Do the Ami, Ami then slide for more. Uehe, Ami and Slide (repeat 3 more time) Woe, (repeat 6more times) Then it goes into the Kui to the Left ect. |
