Musical Tribute to Queen Lili`uokalaniSunday, September 3, 5 P.M. - Kawaiaha`o Church Sanctuary, (957 Punchbowl), "E LILI`U E" A musical tribute to honor Queen Lili`uokalani on her birthday. Once more, Kahauanu Lake has produced and will direct a Ho`ohanohano filled with song and dance, for the benefit of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame. The pule will be given by Pastor Emeritus, the Reverend William Kaina, and the Welcome chant by Pi`ilani Smith. You will hear the music and song of The Kahauanu Lake Singers, and solo performance by Joe Recca with Dora Ah Chan at the piano. Special guests will be members of the Haili Choir of Hilo, Hall of Fame Honorees in 2001. Dance soloists are Na Kumu Hula Momi Kepilino and Vangie Kealoha Wong; also Pi`ilani Smith, Sissy Lake and Kula Abiva. The performing Halaus will be: Mohala Ilima (Kumu Mapuana Desilva); Na Kipu`upu`u (Kumu Al Kula Abiva); Nahulu (Kawai, Bucky, Kahiwalani, Dean Kamalei); Na Mamo O Pu`uanahulu (Sonny Ching); O Na Maolipua (Kumu Alicia Smith) who are also hostesses for the event Tickets are $15 unreserved for this special concert, and must be purchased in advance from Alan Yoshioka, Harry's Music Store, 3457 Waialae Ave., Honolulu 96816/phone 735-2866, or from Walter Kawai`ae`a/674-1292 or Kahauanu Lake/734-4546. Some parking is available in the Kawaiaha`o Church parking area, or use the State parking just across the street. If you are taking the bus, the corner of King Street and Punchbowl is a major eastbound bus stop; from Waikiki and East O`ahu, buses stop at the corner of Beretania and Punchbowl, one block mountainside. |
